Pea Microgreens

Pea microgreens are a delicious and nutrient-rich option that's easy to grow, even for beginners. With their sweet, fresh taste and crisp texture, they make a perfect addition to salads, sandwiches, and more. Here's how to grow your own pea microgreens at home.

Materials Needed:

  • Pea seeds (preferably organic)

  • Seed tray or shallow container

  • Growing medium (cocopeat, potting soil, or a mix of both)

  • Spray bottle

  • Water

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Container:

    • Fill your seed tray or shallow container with your chosen growing medium, leaving about half an inch of space at the top.

  2. Sow the Seeds:

    • Soak pea seeds in water for 8-12 hours before planting to speed up germination.

    • After soaking, evenly distribute the seeds over the surface of the growing medium. Pea seeds are larger, so spacing them out evenly is easier.

  3. Cover the Seeds:

    • Gently press the seeds into the soil with your hand or a flat object. You can lightly sprinkle a thin layer of growing medium on top, but it's not required.

  4. Watering:

    • Use a spray bottle to mist the seeds and soil generously. Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged throughout the growing process. Mist the seeds 2-3 times daily or as needed.

  5. Germination:

    • Place the tray in a warm, dark area for 2-3 days until the seeds germinate. Pea seeds typically germinate within 3-4 days.

  6. Light Exposure:

    • Once germinated, move the tray to a sunny spot or under grow lights. Pea microgreens need about 4-6 hours of light daily to grow healthy and strong.

  7. Harvesting:

    • In about 10-14 days, your pea microgreens will be ready for harvest. They should be about 3-4 inches tall. Use scissors to cut the microgreens just above the soil line.

Enjoy Your Pea Microgreens: Pea microgreens add a sweet, crisp flavor to any dish, from salads to stir-fries. Enjoy your freshly harvested, nutrient-packed microgreens!
